GOLD KNEE
Cobalt chromium is the material used for knee replacement for more than 50 years now.Some of the newer design implants have TiNbN.Coating on their surface. This material is harder than COCR implants. They have lower wear compared to COCR implants because of lower coefficient of friction. These implants are also safer to be used in patients with known metal allergy.
OXINIUM KNEE
Oxinium is oxidised zirconium.this material is twice as hard as COCR.It has very less wear compared to conventional material. Oxinium is lighter material and can be used in patients with metal allergy.
HIGHLY CROSS-LINKED POLYETHYLENE
The spacer between the femoral and tibial component is made of polyethylene. Highly cross-linked polyethylene has very low coefficient of friction and more resistant to wear.
